An important requirement of the F-117 stealth fighter is its capability to operate from a variety of airstrips around the world. The aircraft is equipped with a Pioneer ringslot parachute that may be quickly deployed to shorten the landing roll-out distance. It is
designed to be light in weight, to minimize payload penalty, to deploy and inflate quickly in the near wake of the aircraft, and to trail in a stable, predictable manner. The parachute is usually released at the end of the roll-out, is inspected, and re-packed for another flight.
