DCX is an example of a multi-million dollar experimental flight system that relies on a parachute recovery system to protect it from failure during flight testing. In this video, the 40 foot tall, 60,000 pound SSTO performs a guided precision test flight at an altitude of 150 feet. The flight system is protected by a 46.3 foot diameter ribbon drogue parachute and a cluster of four 137 foot diameter main parachutes, with parachute deployment available from any attitude or rotation.
